Our Home Mission Outreach Ministry enables members to use their time and talents as we work with faith-based communities in Eastern Kentucky and locally to serve those in need. In this ministry of presence, we strive to reflect God’s love and mercy through service.
We welcome help from adults (18 yrs or older) interested in working with underserved and needy families in Eastern Kentucky and in the diocese of Harrisburg. Trips to Kentucky are usually 5-7 days. Projects in our area are shorter in duration. We plan two trips to Kentucky each year, traditionally in May and September. Shorter trips to deliver donations are scheduled as needed.
See the Overnight Safe Haven information below for local volunteer opportunities.
For several years, during the winter months, the Home Mission Outreach Ministry of our parish has helped provide volunteers at the Overnight Safe Haven shelter in Harrisburg sponsored by Christian Churches United. Its mission is “To provide a safe, welcoming place to rest when the temperatures make it unsafe to sleep outside.”
This year the overnight shelter is held from December 1 to March 31, 2025 at Susquehanna Harbor Safe Haven in Harrisburg. Two shifts are available nightly, Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM & Friday and Saturday from 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM. At least one man is desired for each shift. Due to insurance requirements a CCU volunteer form and a PA Background Check (free for volunteers) are needed.
For more information about duties during each shift and how to sign up, contact parishioner Glenn Carnahan @ 717-580-1026 or [email protected].
